Known for
- Prosecution informed by the PTAB. Years on both sides of inter partes review shape how he drafts and argues applications — claims and specifications written for the challenge they may one day face.
- Opinions of counsel on validity and freedom to operate where a financing, listing or transaction turns on them, including portfolio work supporting a Hong Kong stock-exchange listing.
- Spanish-language practice. Direct work with companies and IP firms in Latin America and Spain entering the US patent system — strategy, inventor interviews and examiner practice without an interpreter in between.
- AIPLA. Chair (2022–2024) and previously Vice Chair of the PTAB Trial Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association; a drafter of AIPLA comment letters on USPTO rulemaking; frequent speaker on PTAB topics.
- Pro bono leadership. Chair of his firm’s Pro Bono Committee, which under his tenure expanded into immigration matters — habeas petitions reuniting families, U visas for survivors of violence, DACA renewals, bond hearings for detained immigrants. Board of Directors, Legal Aid Justice Center.
- Teaching. Adjunct professor of patent drafting at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School, 2012–2022 (Law 351, Patent Writing Theory and Practice).
